The Cape Peninsula juts out into the Atlantic Ocean on the far southwestern reaches of South Africa. The capital, Cape Town, is part of this peninsula as are a number of beaches popular with locals and tourists. Cape Town's most popular beach is the swanky stretch of sand at Clifton Beach. It is made up of 4 coves and the beaches are called 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Definitely the best beach, hands down, in Cape Town. Water feels so amazing, you could relax in their for hours. Location is pretty nice and posh, with lots of places to eat around. Make sure you get their early as beach gets quite full, and you definitely want a nice spot

You clamber down winy, twisting staircases past homes to get to the beach but it's worth the effort. On a clear day it's a great place to chill.

On a summer evening, my favourite place to be is on Clifton 4th. The beautiful sunsets, the soft sand, the little alcoves that (mostly) shelter you from the wind. I love it. I love that the houses on the mountain light up like stars as the sun goes down and I have found the beach to be safe and well maintained. Parking is often an issue but if you arrive early enough on a week night, you should find a spot. The rocks off to the side have also become a favourite of mine. And the fire dancers who frequent Clifton 1st and 2nd, are magical. It's too cold to swim in 80% of the time but it really is the best for picnics and parties.

This is such a stunning part of the country... Cape Town has a certain magic about it and Clifton is a big part of that. Whether you want to swim or just have an ice cream on the beach, there's always something to do here! The only problem which is obvious and well known: PARKING!

This is a really beautiful beach, my first visit there was way back in 1982 and when I visited again not so long ago I found that nothing had changed, the beautiful white sand, the rocks that one can sit on. Plenty of surfers going out for a paddle even though the waters are icy. Parking is safe and the beach is easily accessible. Clean, pristine and well looked after. Anyone visiting Cape Town must definitely make a trip to this beautiful, stunning, remarkable beach.

'The 4th' at Clifton was undoubtedly taken into account in the recent London Daily Telegraph's rating of Cape Town as "The most beautiful city in the world". Carved by centuries of wave action, Clifton is a magnificent patch of pure smooth washed fine beach sand. Who can ever forget the 'scorching Sundays on the sand', where after hours of 'tanning', sussing out the 'passing talent', and watching the rich and famous (and friends) gavotting on their ocean - going yachts moored just offshore, where one can no longer stand the intense heat and airlessness, and just breaks into a rapid sprint straight into the icy Atlantic waters to create the quintissential "Wake up call !" - where all thoughts of lazy lagers, hot sand and sleepiness are instantly dismissed. Just great - gotta love Cape Town, bru ! .

I love clifton. White sands and refreshing water. Views are great all around, wether you are looking out to the sea, the beautiful mountains or even the impressive houses. Every time I go I am impressed by the police presence esp during the December period.
Remember to pack your own lunch as there is no easy access to food.
Access can be a problem, esp after swimming the whole day and being hungry, you still needing to walk up all those steep stairs :)

Breathtaking bay of white sandy beaches and spectacular granite boulders at the foot of the Twelve Apostles side of Table Mountain. At the hight of Summer you'll welcome the refreshing temperatures of the azure waters of this wonderfully South Easterly sheltered bay.

5 stunning beaches to choose from! love the steep staircase leading, mostly because it filter the unfit whales off the beach and makes you anticipate the first touch of the soft white sand in your toes. Global warming actually has a benefit now allowing us to swim in the atlantic. Close enough to walk to from sea point.
