Two weeks ago I was in Cape Town and needed a Commissioner of Oaths to stamp and sign a Proof of Address for the lawyers my father is using. Off to Durbanville Police Station I went and was amazed at the amount of problems they have to handle - an 18 year old needed a Commissioner of Oaths to sign that she was residing with her parents before she could get a drivers license, the lady behind me needed a Commissioner of Oaths to sign her statement that she had lost her drivers license before she could apply for a new one, there were a number of well dressed men harassing people outside KFC in Durbanville, the list went on and on. Every single person in that queue was treated with respect, their requests/requirements were listened to and sorted and not once did I see a policeman get irritated or annoyed (although I would have been seething inside if I were one of them!!). They got onto their radio and called for two policemen to go to KFC, they helped the lady whose license was lost and they helped me. This police station is amazing!!! I want to give a massive thumbs up to the Durbanville SAPS - they are fantastic!! I also want to mention that the Durbanville Kinderhuis is just up the road and these policemen visit the children here, give them guidance and councelling and do it in their own free time, at no charge!!!

This police station should be national monument by now. It has been there more than 50 years (dont want to give my age away) but it was there when I was a toddler!! The building continues being well maintained and always looks like it has been newly painted. We called the police out to my folks' home two weeks ago because there were some homeless people sleeping between my parents' cars but wouldn't leave when we asked them to. The police took less than 5 minutes to get to the house, even though they knew it wasn't urgent!! Such good service and so professional!!
