After an initial enquiry at PostNet to courier a parcel overseas, with the literally exhorbitant tarriff quoted by them, decided to try the SA Post Office and their courier service. We were professionally received, advised and quoted, and decided to accept the service proposition and pricing. This little office, now located in 14th Avenue Fairland, from it's previous 'in store' location in the Smit Street Spar, is very much a 'village post office', being small and more personal than the larger offices, yet able to offer almost all of the services of the larger offices (vehicle licence renewal being a significant exclusion), and something that I personally prefer. Just a pity that the Spar 'in store' arrangements seem to have been withdrawn generally .... with only the P O Boxes (still operational) being left in the Smit Street Spar parking lot. Although this excellent Spar has been comprehensively and attractively facelifted inside, the 'shopping compact' or 'cluster of convenience services' has been shattered in the old location, where one had a Spar with a Post Office inside, an FNB ATM , and next door a great little Shell Service Station, and Standard Bank ATM (this petrol garage is being completely renovated) as well as a fast food pizza outlet. Maybe in time, a new 'cluster of convenience' will be forged again - I miss it, and the alternatives are less convenient and waste time ?
