Randburg Licensing Department
I was incredibly touched by my treatment by the Randburg Licensing Department where I was treated with care and concern. I was the last customer and the officials were within minutes of being able to go home. They waited for me. These interactions give one a good feeling about both the city and the government.

Thumbs up
Compared to other places, this govt service is very good. There seems to be some order and staff can be seen to be working. The parking space needs a bit of an upgrade. The runners needs to be controlled. Other than these things, thumbs up for the staff here.
From early in the morning people queue there to do a variety of things. The staff is friendly and assistive and helps you make sure the line you are standing in is for the correct reason.
Tips:
Make sure you sue the toilet before you go there as those ones are dismal.
Make sure you have cash for what you need done as they dont accept cards.
Make sure you're there early as the lines get quite long
They open an hour later on the last wedensday of the month

Slow, steady
No one really likes going to the licensing department. This one however is not all bad.
From early in the morning people queue there to do a variety of things. The staff is friendly and assistive and helps you make sure the line you are standing in is for the correct reason.

Randburg Licencing Department
Last Friday morning my neighbour and I went through to the Randburg Licencing Department. Her hubby had bought a new company vehicle and asked her to get the licence. She made 100% sure she had all the necessary documentation, ID's, etc and off we went. What nice people!! There were six ladies sharing one office. In this cramped environment they were polite, helpful, friendly and professional. I really was most impressed. We were in and out in less than an hour!!

Service is good
They seemed organised with people ushering you into the correct station. The parking is a big problem. I sometimes wonder why they are not open on Saturdays. So, once every 5 years you need to take a day-off to renew your license. Imagine the impact on the GDP for such a ridiculous money making scheme.

Amazingly quick again
I had to do a transfer/registration of a car, and I braved the winter cold to stand n the queue at 7a.m.Good thing too as I was 2nd in the queue. On this day the doors open at 7:30a.m instead of the usual 8a.m business hour. Security came to check what each person needed, handing out forms and dividing us into 3 queues (rates and taxes, vehicle registration and one other not sure what it was). I completed my form before the doors open which help speed process inside. Except for an issue with the date stamp, all went smoothly and quickly once inside. I was first in queue to get my documents and pay, I did find it strange though that their numbering system starts at zero as this was the number I was given as the first person in queue. But all went well with no long waits or glitches. I survived the winter morning and I survived the infamous Randburg License department. Overall happy on this occasion with the process and service.

Not bad at all.
I needed a drivers renewal (who knew they actually expired) so I went early one morning to the Randburg Licensing department. Not bad. The queue at seven in the morning was averagely long and it took about 90 minutes. This is not bad as I've heard that people take up to 2-3 hours at other branches. Further, remember to take only cash and they do not accept credit/debit cards :(

Remember to take copies of your documents just in case. Also carry cash when applying for license renewals as well as ID photos. If you forget those, be prepared to do a lot of walking in the sometimes shady market area.

I intend to speak to a manager or elevate the problem to the Provincial DRT. In fact, standing here in the queue, I hear the phone ringing endlessly without the slightest concern from officials.

Licensing (Randburg)
What a disaster. Four hours in the queue and the staff were all completely disinterested. The fact that there is nowhere else where you can get your license is the only reason I would stand in that queue. You have to time it right at these places if you want something done quickly.

Efficient
Had to renew my driving license. Good thing I was early, as the queues can become long. I was pleasantly surprised with the efficiency and helpfulness of staff, something i had not always had here before. I had to do a change of address as well as renew my license, even though the queues were long, I could see there was an efficient process in place and staff working hard to assist people quickly. Hope they can keep up the good service, however something needs to be done about the parking. If you not there early, you drive around trying to find parking, and being in the centre, you do not want to just park your car on the roadside.

Give them a Bells!
So after the hour wait at Lanlaagte, I drove to the Randburg Licensing department. Parking is a nightmare with demand clearly outstripping the supply. There were three times more people. The queues were longer but here is the difference. Things were organised, controlled and staff were working hard to process the renewals. Amazingly, people were patient and understanding of the circumstances. Well done to staff and management at this facility...give yourselves a Bells!
