    I was pleasantly surprised when I went to apply for both my new ID card and passport last week. Be warned that no one answers the phones EVER! Once you get there however, the Akasia office is very well organised. I was clearly shown where to go and although the lines were long, I left the office after two hours, successfully applying for both documents. Within a week I was notified that both my passport and ID card was ready for collection. The staff at all points were friendly and helpful. I recommend this Dept of Home affairs to anyone needing new identity documents or passports.

    A pleasant surprise!

    I was pleasantly surprised when I went to apply for both my new ID card and passport last week. Be warned that no one answers the phones EVER! Once you get there however, the Akasia office is very well organised. I was clearly shown where to go and although the lines were long, I left the office after two hours, successfully applying for both documents. Within a week I was notified that both my passport and ID card was ready for collection. The staff at all points were friendly and helpful. I recommend this Dept of Home affairs to anyone needing new identity documents or passports.

    I am trying to phone akasia home affairs 012 542 9201 and 012 542 9200 numbers which I got in their website and it just ring and ring and ring.

    We apply for our new ID cards on 14 December 2015. After one week my husband received an sms his card is ready for collection. I had to phone the call centre and was given a reference number. They then send an email to the Akasia branch notifying them that they must do my card it is taking to long. Every week I phoned, just to be informed, they are busy to verify my fingerprints I must phone next week. Next week come, then there is a problem, now there is two sets of fingerprints ????? they are busy to verify. Week later then the system was off line. Last week after two months I had it with them, the person in charge there he did not even answer my emails. So I send emails to headoffice and then things started to happen. First I received and email from a person telling me my card is now in the final stage. Then Thursday another person emailed me asking for my ID number, which I send to him. The on Friday he send an email letting me know my card will be ready this week. Just now I received an email telling me my card is ready to collection. The people there are not doing there work. The call centre send from there side two emails to them, one time I phoned the lade told me she can see if the email was read or not and till that day no one of the two emails was read by that office. Very very poor service delivery there.

    Hip Hip Hooray !!!!!!!

    I applied for a Letter of no impediment THREE months ago on 9 Nov 2015. Today, 11 Feb 2016, I still do not have the document. I called in December and was told they had lost my ID. I called several times again in January and was told each time that they will escalate it. Ater several calls in February, they asked me to send the proof of payment, which they should have in their system. I faxed it, but no reaction. I emailed it and I am still waiting. My future husband is German and we had an appointment in the beginning of February with his lawyer, so that he can start the process on that side. I called three times before I left and eventually flew to Germany without the letter. A total waste of time and money. If we do not receive the document by Monday 15 Feb, it will be too late and we will have to cancel the wedding. The service is shocking. Up to date, I have not received any explanation as to the delay. Each time I call, I get the same answer. They do not know what the problem is. This is unacceptable!

    Waiting for THREE MONTHS and still no document

    I applied for a Letter of no impediment THREE months ago on 9 Nov 2015. Today, 11 Feb 2016, I still do not have the document. I called in December and was told they had lost my ID. I called several times again in January and was told each time that they will escalate it. Ater several calls in February, they asked me to send the proof of payment, which they should have in their system. I faxed it, but no reaction. I emailed it and I am still waiting. My future husband is German and we had an appointment in the beginning of February with his lawyer, so that he can start the process on that side.     We are trying to find out about our ID document. We stand in long queues on the 22/12/2015 - from 8h00 till 14h30. Paid the fees for a temporary Id and permanent ID. Unfortunately lost the receipt. When we got there they said we did not applied for a permanent ID. Why of why would we only applied for a temporary Id if it is only valid for two months.     great sevice

    well it depends ,, been there twice in 10 days , btwn the 15 th of dec 2015 - 25 . Long queues of course but service fantastic , absolutely phenomenon

    Does anyone in a position to do anything about this, EVER read this?
    A while ago I went to renew my drivers licence. Got there at 8:00, then had to sit and stand in line up to about 13:30 when I was then 3rd from being helped.
    Then I was told by the other people still waiting, that the eye tests was only done up to 14:00, which is bloody stupid because you have to do
    the eye test, snapshot and fingerprinting at the same time.
    Promptly 13:30 the employees, got up, one after the other and went for lunch, leaving no one to assist.
    Only when I got up and started to record a video on my phone and said I'll send it to Carte Blanche, did someone re-appear.
    People, really. You know the public HAS to go and therefore treat us like scrap.

    ABSURD QUEUE

    Does anyone in a position to do anything about this, EVER read this?

    I applied for my unabridged birth certificate and only received it 10 months after application. They could not even get that right. My birth certificate reflected my married name!!!

    Birth Certificate Error

    I applied for my unabridged birth certificate and only received it 10 months after application. They could not even get that right. My birth certificate reflected my married name!!!

    I had to go back to AKASIA as only they can correct it. Now, after two weeks, I cannot get through on any phone line.

    id collection

    I've been waiting for my new id for almost 4 months,i went to home affairs twice already,everytime i go inquire about my id they just put my id no with cell no on a piece of paper,then the person assisting u just tell u to wait for your sms before collecting your id,i find the home affairs akacia branch PATHETIC,monkeys can do a better job!!!

    LONG QUEUES

    My fiancé is applying for an Asylum permit,he was informed that the Pakistani applicants can only apply on Thursdays!he has been there twice only to be told to wait in the endless queue.it is expensive to go from Aliwal North to Pretoria every time and our business also suffers as a result.
    Previously he went up and was assisted the same day...what new regulatioin is this?

    Telephone NEVER answered!!!!!!!!!!

    It is sickening and frustrating that you have a telephone line that we need to use for enquiries but it is NEVER answered!!! Akasia Home Affairs NEVER answers their telephone line I have been trying to call them for months now and it is everyday.................. this is FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!
