only been here once, it wasn't the worst home affairs ever, the staff were friendly and helpful but the queues were a bit on the ridiculous side and the building was a bit shoddy

For the first time I have ever used the home affairs dept in Richards and is absolutely disgusted with the service provided. Firstly I came here this morning to register the birth of my newborn daughter and I had no sense of direction. I asked for help and was told to stand at the queue at counter 5 & 6. Nobody at the queue knew where the line started and what's worse some ladies brought their new born babies and had to sit and wait while other mothers stood holding their babies. Guess what I asked one of the staff why only one person helping this queue with no direction and she says they short of staff and I must complain to the government. This is shoddy service

I recently visited the Home Affairs office in Richardsbay, to assist my Mother to reapply for the new i.d. card as the old i.d. books are being phased out. On arrival we were greeted by a polite and helpful security guard, who pointed us in the right direction.
We went and got a queue number and surprisingly even though the queue was very long we were assisted within 15 minutes.
The member of staff who served my Mom was friendly and was very knowledgeable in her work. Once application was made we received a sms a day later and within two weeks we went and collected the new card with just as little stress.
My expectation versus reality was worlds apart.
I was amazed that pensioners do not have to pay a fee when renewing i.d. cards.
    Well done Home Affairs Richardsbay.
